A multiplayer music party game, from card deck to both app stores.

Soundcards started life as a physical card game. Its founder wanted the same social music experience in everyone's pocket. We designed and built the game in Flutter for iOS and Android, with real songs from Spotify and SoundCloud, four ways to play, AI players, online matchmaking, subscriptions and the website that introduces it.

In short

Soundcards is a social music party game: one player is the Judge, draws a genre card like “Breakup Songs” or “Best Chorus”, and everyone else races to submit the real song that nails it. The Judge listens blind and crowns a winner. We turned that idea into a complete mobile game, handling product and game UX, Flutter development, the Firebase back end, music integrations, multiplayer, safety, subscriptions, store launch and the marketing website.

  • Four play modes: pass-the-phone, online match, private rooms and AI practice

The Challenge

One game that works in the room and across the world

A music party game lives or dies on its pace. Soundcards had to feel effortless with friends passing one phone around a table, and just as smooth with strangers playing online in different countries. Every round needed a card, a timer, song search, anonymous submissions, blind judging and a winner, without the technology ever getting in the way.

On top of the core loop, the product needed real music rather than multiple choice, a way to play without a full group, fair judging, safety for public online play and a subscription model that let people try the game before paying.

01

Local and online in one app

Shared-phone handoffs for parties, and synchronised sessions and round state for online matches.

02

Real songs, fast

Searching millions of tracks and previewing them had to feel instant, mid-round.

03

Fair and safe play

Anonymous submissions, objections, reporting, blocking and name filtering for public matches.

04

Never short a player

The core loop had to work solo or with small groups, not only when a full table showed up.

Our Solution

A single Flutter build on a real-time Firebase back end

We built Soundcards in Flutter, so one codebase ships a native-feeling game to both iOS and Android. Firebase Authentication, Firestore and Cloud Functions run identity, data and the server-side game workflows that keep online rounds in sync: who is Judge, which card is live, how long is left, who has submitted and who won.

Song discovery connects to Spotify and SoundCloud, so players search real tracks, hear 30-second previews in the app and open the full song in their own music app. AI players draw, submit and judge alongside people, so Practice mode and short-handed games always work. RevenueCat powers Soundcards Plus with a free trial, weekly, monthly and yearly plans, plus referral rewards, while reporting, blocking and offensive-name filtering keep public play safe.

The Website

A marketing site, not an afterthought

Soundcards needed somewhere to send people before they ever open the app: what the game is, how a round plays, the four ways to play and the plans. We built soundcardsgame.com alongside the game itself, sharing the same visual language.
